Jesmond Dene and Jesmond Vale are two of the five parks that make up Ouseburn Parks. The other three parks are Armstrong Park, Heaton Park and Paddy Freeman’s Park. Jesmond Dene is a beautiful wooded valley with much to see and do all through the year. Visit the animals in Pets’ Corner, stroll along the river, and enjoy the wildlife and many historical features in the park.
Jesmond Vale follows the Ouseburn River with areas of grassland and wooded areas to enjoy.
Jesmond Dene and Jesmond Vale are open at all times.
Visitor Centre opening times
Jesmond Dene Visitor Centre is open Monday to Friday from 9:30am to 4:30pm.
Weekend opening times are dependent on staff availability. Please phone the Visitor Centre ahead on 0191 281 2082 if you are making a special journey.

Jesmond Dene has many entrances, including from Paddy Freeman’s Park, Castles Farm Bridge, Jesmond Dene Road, Armstrong Bridge and Park Head Road.
Jesmond Vale can be accessed from Ouseburn Road, Benton Bank and Lansdowne Gardens.
Within Jesmond Dene are a variety of facilities to ensure you have an enjoyable day, including a Visitor Centre and gift shop.
There are public toilets in Millfield House café and also at the picnic field near the Waterfall.
The café serves a variety of hot and cold food and drinks. There is a small playground in front of Pets’ Corner.
Due to the geography of Jesmond Dene, many of the paths are steep and unsuitable for wheelchairs. However, there are some flatter routes, such as alongside the River.

There is parking in Jesmond Dene, along Red Walk, with disabled spaces close to the Visitor Centre.
How to get to Jesmond Dene

Buses 306, 308, 309 & 310 from the Haymarket Bus Station and the 38 from John Dobson Street, stop at Cradlewell (A1058), a 5 minute walk from Jesmond Dene.
The nearest Metro stations to Pets’ Corner and the Visitor Centre are Jesmond and West Jesmond. Ilford Road Metro station is closer to the North end of the park.
We encourage visitors to use public transport wherever possible as parking is limited within the park.
The main entrance, route for cars and location of the Vistor Centre is along Red Walk. Red Walk is situated off Benton Bank, which can be accessed from the A1058, Coast Road. There is parking along Benton Bank and Red Walk. Please only use marked parking spaces. There are disabled parking spaces close to the Visitor Centre and Pets’ Corner.
Friends of Jesmond Dene
